ABOUT US
We are an innovative barrister-led training entity that has a single goal - to provide businesses and industry and with plain speaking cutting edge training in civil litigation, giving evidence and advocacy for non lawyers. It is ideal for anyone wanting to learn how to better present their case in court or those who non lawyers involved in litigation or small claims to simply better understand how it all works and in so doing greatly increase their chance of success. We are barristers and solicitors with many years of experience in the cut and thrust of litigation and have designed courses designed specifically to help the non-lawyer navigate their way around the complexities and intricacies of advocacy, civil litigation and small claims cases.
Our courses have been carefully designed by our founder Nathan Goldstein who has a vast wealth of experience as courtroom advocate in Australia and England/Wales. A Legal 500 rated junior chancery barrister who practises from the leading chambers of 18 St John Street Manchester, Nathan has over 30 years of legal practice at the Bar and is well placed to know the “ins and outs” of civil practice and procedure that confront non-lawyers conducting their own litigation. For over 15 years he has assisted 100s of self representing businesses and litigants fight their own cases. Nathan in his eclectic practice has been appearing as a barrister in courts for over 30 years in areas as disparate as criminal, family and civil law. He has appeared in countless Crown Court jury trials for both prosecution and defence, the Court of Appeal , the High Court, County Court, Coroners Court, Magistrates Court, various tribunals and international arbitrations. He is often directly instructed by small and larger businesses in a wide array of sectors who are engaged in litigation such as construction, finance, trades, retail, marketing, franchising, computing, IT, transport, banking, licensing, clubs, catering and HR etc. This broad church of experience has given him the unique insight to recognise that there is currently little or no training specifically for non-lawyers to learn about civil litigation and how to conduct their own cases.
Nathan also has a wealth of experience teaching advocacy and legal practice having been a visiting tutor in clinical practice to law schools and bar students and has also acted as a mock trial tutor to school students. He has also been a pupil supervisor to “barristers in training” in chambers.
Whilst Nathan is our lead trainer he will be assisted by very experienced practitioners from across the profession.
Nathan firmly believes that it is possible for self representing parties to understand and navigate their way through civil proceedings but they often come unstuck when trying to follow the various rules of practice and procedure. He believes that the key is not just what is found in the procedural guides but to understand what steps are truly vital and how to avoid falling into the many traps and pitfalls that so many non-lawyers encounter.
He also believes that with some training in the basics of advocacy a lay person can significantly improve how they present their case in court, which in turn will enhance their prospects of success.
In his decades of experience in examining and cross examining witness in countless cases Nathan also recognises the vital importance of the evidence that is given by witnesses. This is an oft neglected part of case preparation and is something that can be quite easily improved with exposure to the right information. In recognition of the dearth of courses in this area Nathan has designed a course that genuinely helps prospective witnesses to better understand the process and give them confidence to give their best evidence.
